What is Acne cosmetica?

Acne cosmetica is a mild but persistent form of acne. Acne cosmetica is caused by the use of cosmetics. The areas which get infected due to acne cosmetica are the face, neck, hairline and scalp. Acne cosmetic is much more common on the face. It looks like small bumps across the surface of the skin or scalp. The inflammation in acne cosmetica is not appreciable when compared to other forms of acne. This type of acne is caused by the use of skin care products. Accumulation of cosmetic products within the follicles results in the blocking of pores. Excess skin oil builds up the acne, clogging the pore and creating a blemish. To avoid acne cosmetica the face should be thoroughly cleanse from all traces of make-up at the end of each day. Acne cosmetic can be treated by using products containing salicylic acid. If there is no improvement after six to eight weeks of treatment, it is better to see a dermatologist.
